I love these summer days...

These summer days are the best.

We had a leisurely breakfast follow by colouring pretty much everything I would allow her to colour. Then we read every single book we own....twice.

A quick snack of apples and she was on the go again. Outside this time to get some play in before the UV got too high. Sliding, running through the sprinkler, investigating the garden. It was a lovely day. Really hot and sunny but the humidex wasn't as bad as it had been.

After at least an hour Daphne started to slow down and eventually crawled over to mom for a snuggle. So we came inside for some Paw Patrol and a snack. She chugged a big glass of lemonade and was ready for her nap.

The afternoon consisted of laps around the kitchen, endless Itsy Bitsy Spider/Wheels on the Bus/If Your Happy and You Know It renditions, and of course more colouring.

Excitement for when dad arrives home...and he even bought me a book I had been looking for. What a swell guy.

Grilled cheese for the lady and artichoke linguine for the larger humans. Daphne always heads to bed around 7pm and I always feel like I could follow right behind. I managed to stay up and watch some Olympics with the hubz before passing out.

These days go by too quickly...the summer will be gone before we know it :(

Fencing us in...

I was planning on documenting the whole fence building process...but in the interest of full disclosure I'll tell you that my mom and I left to go shopping while they were setting the posts. But we got a couple of outfits for D, a much needed hat and a gingham romper for Canada Day. So we all had a successful day!

First day was done!

Posts were set and my dad came back the next day to put the cement in. It was too hot and muggy to finish that the same day.

Of course Daphne entertained herself in the sprinkler!

We filled the holes in after the cement set over night and the next weekend my dad and hubz finished the fence!

I am more than excited to finally have this finished. Daphne is so curious (and fast) it will be nice to be able to turn around to do some gardening and KNOW she is at least in the yard somewhere when I turn back around!

It's the first day of summer!

Finally! Although we've already had some pretty hot days.

Hot as hell here, and a very good chance of thunderstorms all afternoon. I'm going to be getting good use out of the ac today!

A Day in the Pool

A few years ago Will's step-dad's boss let us use her house and pool while she was out of town. It was a lot of fun, but it wasn't too warm from what I remember.

Well this weekend we're under a heat warning, and yesterday it was 3000 degrees...ya not exaggerating. Like 30 feels like 3000.

So we packed up our swim suits, our towels and our Daphne and headed to Quebec to use the pool again!





What a refreshing day it was! Had smoked salmon sandwiches and potato salad by the pool and swam for a few hours.

Daphne loves the water! Unfortunately I didn't get any pictures of her in the pool. We were all having too much fun!




Also got a chance to show off the new swimsuit she got from her great-aunt Beth! So sweet. 

Why are bathing suits on kids the cutest thing ever?

Just the perfect way to spend such a hot day.

Tiny Backyard Gardening

I don't have much of a backyard. Actually I have NO backyard, just some concrete slabs and a patio set.

Three-ish years ago my husband built me a little garden box out of shed shingles and random pieces of wood scavenged from my parents house. It's full of holes and kinda shallow but it's done it's job.

I usually grow my basil in it but one year I was able to grow sunflowers. I was pretty proud of that.

This year, not having the time available to tend a flower garden, I decided to just grow herbs. Basil, mostly, as I LOVE basil pesto, rosemary, chives and mint.

Here is my little garden end of May when I planted it.

 My dad told me this was a milkweed. Apparently they are excellent at attracting monarch butterflies! So I'm keeping it right where it is.

Annnnd here is my garden now.

Everything is growing really well. I also picked up some oregano and thyme to add to my collection. I don't know what I would do without fresh herbs available all summer!
