Daphne's Walking!!!

Daphne took her very first steps on Canada Day! A few sloppy stumbles towards mommy...so proud.

When my parents finally got home from Alberta we were able to get a quick video of her taking a few steps to Nona!

Lists, Packing and My Nudist Baby

When we visit my parents we make sure to be able to spend the night because it is a full day’s worth of planning to get us all out there.

Diapers. Monitor. Sleep sheep.
Enough sleepers for unexpected but probable rear end blow outs.
Formula. Soother.
Blanket. NO! Not that blanket! She hates that blanket right now!!!

I have given myself two weeks to get her packed for our out of country vacation.

Cause every time I start trying to get some things put together and before I know it were back downstairs, shes naked, and I'm covered in pureed peas. GLAMOUR!

I'll just collect the bathing suits and dresses and ...oh no shes eating cat hair off the floor. I should have vacuumed that.

I know my mom mentioned in one of her blogs a little while ago that D really liked Mum Mums. Those things are a total life saver sometimes! Two mum mums gives me enough time to do some dishes or eat something!

So I have been trying to use them as a distraction while I try to get things together for her. They work to an extent. The biggest drawback is if you give her one in her room you spend the next 4 days picking crusty mum mums out of the carpet. It's much safer on the kitchen floor.

And more fun...there aren't any wooden spoon/rubbermaid drum sets in her room.

It's not fair to blame her, though. I get distracted playing, tickling and cuddling. She's too much fun!

Who could resist?

I'm sure I'm better prepared than I think I am. I have three lists and one checklist of the lists to complete.

Oh god, I'm my mother. Ok, start calling me Susan. I'm a goner.

Another Day Another Daphne

It seems every day she wakes up bigger, with more hair and ready to show off another new and exciting skill.

I was sitting at our dining table writing a list when I looked down and Daphne was standing holding onto a chair.

Standing! Pleased as punch!

Glad we got our front gate up already. Now that she's crawling AND pulling up she can't be stopped!

I didn't manage to catch her standing all the way up, but trust me! She can!

Once she's pulled up she's taken a liking to letting go and seeing how long she can stand unassisted. Each time is a little longer.

It's hard to believe that my little bald 7 pound newborn will one day let go of that chair and charge feet first into the world.

I love every minute of it....except at 3am...I don't love that.

Ready for Sunshine!!!

I think we're all ready for a little bit of sun and heat. Especially in the area we live in here at P&PD.

We may or may not be getting ready to take a wee vacay to somewhere sunny. And someone I know has been super spoiled by Nona and Bapa and is now SUPER DUPER prepared for vacay AND summer!

Yup, you guessed it. It was not I who was spoiled.
Why can't adult clothes come in easy to buy sizes like 29-31 adult??

She got shorts, dresses, bathing suits, onesies, pants and tops! I had laundry to do anyway so I layed all her new stuff out (what a haul, eh) to take all the tags off and D decided she needed to inspect everything.

And boy did she. I think everything got the seal/stamp/drool of approval!

My favorite purchase by Nona! This is from Joe Fresh and it's the cutest thing I've ever seen!! I'm not a fan of those super pink and girly bathing suits nor do I like the idea of her wearing a two piece. And gah, shes so cute in it! All those leg rolls!!!

Nona also got some sunscreen for her! Gotta protect that delicate skin.

Daphne approves of this only as a chew toy.

She also got a super cute little sun hat. Can't be too careful with a baby in the sun. Especially by the water...we may or may not be close to water soon.

See? It covers her whole face. No sun can get her!!!

And this amazing headband that matched one of the dresses she got. But let's be honest, what DOESN'T this go with. Exactly.

She played with the clothes for almost 40 minutes.

Apparently it was hard work!

"Is it my turn?"

Yes of course, MacGuffin...it's always your turn.

Daphne learns to crawl!

What finally motivated her to get moving?

I was eating a taco while sitting on the floor and all three cats were circling! I guess she wanted in on the action cause she flopped onto her belly and pulled herself to me.

Vanity and Spring Cleaning

Had an excellent last weekend ...even though it's still pretty chilly out. Sorry it took so long to post this, I'm busy jeeeeeze.

I hadn't started ANY spring cleaning at all so I took the opportunity to do some. Although my mother considers spring cleaning to be wiping down the walls and scrubbing the baseboard...we rent...and they treat us like crap...so I intend to leave a greasy fingerprint covered wall art for them when we leave.

I consider cleaning out my closets and drawers to be my spring cleaning. Out with the old in with the new, right? So I also bought some new clothes with the birthday money I got from my parents. I guess it's about time to accept that this ol' body of mine will never go back to it's pre-baby stretchmark-less glory days and get some clothes that fit!

Shelley loves cleaning days. All the cats do. Any chance to get into the bedroom, which is normally locked because a certain someone likes to take dumps in the closet

*cough* MacG *cough*

Daphne also seemed to enjoy the hustle and bustle in the bedroom. The reason I started cleaning this weekend is because we decided to move our bedroom around a little. After three years the set up was getting a bit stale. Alllsoooo...I finally got my vanity!!! Will has wanted to buy me this vanity for 2 years but it's never worked out. He's always wanted to buy it for my birthday but birthday month is always car registration month. Which means $$$ to the gov't every March. But this year everything worked out!

Took him two days to built it...because......

The mirror came broken. UGH! After 3 calls that weekend to the incompetent idiots Rogers calls customer service reps I was in NO MOOD to call IKEA about this. Thankfully Will called them up and they said it was no problem. Took about 15 minutes at the store and they gave us a brand new mirror...frame included. Which is great cause I now have the spare frame to use somewhere else. I don't know what I'm going to do with it yet, but stay tuned...eventually I will find a way to use it!

And there is it all finished! It fits perfectly in the bedroom. I am planning to go to the dollar store and get some containers/vases/pots/glasses to hold and organize my makeup. I also need to get a garbage can and a magnifying mirror. I'm quite excited about it and so is Will. He told me he is sick of watching me do my makeup on the floor har har...maybe I was in his way.

I would call that a successful weekend. I didn't even mention the beautiful diamond studs he also go me for my birthday. Exactly what I wanted. What a nice guy, eh. I think I'll keep him.

my baby has FOMO!!!

My daughter was born with a pretty serious condition. It's incurable and seems to get worse with time.

You see, Daphne has FOMO (fear of missing out) and it's pretty serious.

She will fight sleep until her eyes are puffy and red but will insist she still wants to play.

It's getting worse the older she gets. Now that she can sit on her own and scoot around a little on her tush HEAVEN FORBID she misses out on a second.

The only naps she likes taking include a mom shaped bed and a maximum 30 minutes shut eye.

I'm looking forward to the snow melting. I'm thinking the best medicine for FOMO may be some fresh air and sunshine!

Mommy could use some of that as well.

Happy St Paddys!

Daphne wanted to wish everyone a most excellent St Patrick's Day.

Mommy dropped the ball and forgot about it SOOO no traditional meal...how disappointing. I'll make a kale salad...that's green enough!

Have a great day, all!!!

Sucking the P's

I finally got around to trying these little toys I was given at my baby shower. They have a little net area to put cold/frozen food for the little lady to chew on.

Oh man, did she chew on it. I already have purees of peas and carrots frozen into ice cubes so I put a cube of peas in there to test it out.

She was smart enough to know when she picked it up which end was the cold yummy part.

She loved it! Must have felt great on the gums. And she was covered in green pea water...adorable and gross.

My only complaint: the net area is about the size of 2 large ice cubes but the opening is plastic and only large enough for one medium cube. Annoying.

I have been informed that banana is quite the m-fer to clean out of the net but otherwise I think this will be a great way to soothe her gums and get some healthy veggies in her!

Formula Questions...

As I’m sure every breastfeeding mom does, all I did was worry about how much Daphne was eating. Sometimes she would eat for an hour and half and then be hungry again in twenty minutes. Sometimes she would eat for ten minutes and be good for two hours. HOW DO YOU KNOW!? I’m no control freak (I typed that with a straight face) but that drove me crazy.

I was more than pleased when I switched to formula that I knew exactly how much she was eating at every feeding. Although that started a whole new group of questions.

How much should I feed her?
The same amount each time?
More at night?
Less at night?

Warm? Cold? Room temperature?

So I found a few websites that agree about one thing, less food at night will help encourage your baby to sleep through the night.

Apparently once they hit 11lbs (she hit that a while ago) metabolically speaking babies don’t “need” feedings at night anymore. Well I’m waiting for when they come to explain that to Daphne, because she did not get that memo. So we’re trying their suggestion. Six ounces during the day and two or four ounces at night. She's not too bad at night but if we could cut out one feeding it would be a nice reprieve.

Parenting is such a guessing game sometimes, and there is always someone saying what you’re doing is wrong. It’s terrifying.

Another cold one...

Well it's another freezing cold day in O-Town!

We had plans to do a few things out of the house today...not sure we will be getting them done.

I wanted to go to Ikea to get a lamp and a toy box for Lady D. She has decided that being in a bunting bag/snow suit is actually the worst torture on earth (worse even than loon sounds AND the food processor). So for now we bundle her in sweaters, hats and blankets when we go out...I'm not sure that will be enough to keep her warm when it's -40C!

So we shall send trusty husband to the grocery store to get food for today and tomorrow, and Daphne and I will stay in and watch movies in our dinosaur jammies!

I'm probably okay with that.

Yesterday we braved the (slightly less) cold day and got some food for our v-day dinner. On the menu: steak, cheese/garlic mashed potatoes and asparagus. We had to high five each other many times cause we achieved a perfect medium rare! We. Are. Amazing.

For dessert I made a flourless chocolate cake/tart/brownie thing. I'd never done a flourless cake before so I'm not sure how it's supposed to taste or what texture it's supposed to have but it tasted awesome I would call it a success. I topped it with a chocolate whisky sauce and fresh raspberries. I also made white chocolate truffles as a backup, man were those RICH!

Probably going to do an easy dinner tonight...and go to bed RIGHT after The Walking Dead.
