my baby has FOMO!!!

My daughter was born with a pretty serious condition. It's incurable and seems to get worse with time.

You see, Daphne has FOMO (fear of missing out) and it's pretty serious.

She will fight sleep until her eyes are puffy and red but will insist she still wants to play.

It's getting worse the older she gets. Now that she can sit on her own and scoot around a little on her tush HEAVEN FORBID she misses out on a second.

The only naps she likes taking include a mom shaped bed and a maximum 30 minutes shut eye.

I'm looking forward to the snow melting. I'm thinking the best medicine for FOMO may be some fresh air and sunshine!

Mommy could use some of that as well.

Formula Questions...

As I’m sure every breastfeeding mom does, all I did was worry about how much Daphne was eating. Sometimes she would eat for an hour and half and then be hungry again in twenty minutes. Sometimes she would eat for ten minutes and be good for two hours. HOW DO YOU KNOW!? I’m no control freak (I typed that with a straight face) but that drove me crazy.

I was more than pleased when I switched to formula that I knew exactly how much she was eating at every feeding. Although that started a whole new group of questions.

How much should I feed her?
The same amount each time?
More at night?
Less at night?

Warm? Cold? Room temperature?

So I found a few websites that agree about one thing, less food at night will help encourage your baby to sleep through the night.

Apparently once they hit 11lbs (she hit that a while ago) metabolically speaking babies don’t “need” feedings at night anymore. Well I’m waiting for when they come to explain that to Daphne, because she did not get that memo. So we’re trying their suggestion. Six ounces during the day and two or four ounces at night. She's not too bad at night but if we could cut out one feeding it would be a nice reprieve.

Parenting is such a guessing game sometimes, and there is always someone saying what you’re doing is wrong. It’s terrifying.

Baby Hydrator

We discovered just before Christmas that D likes to drink water. Of course we don't let her have much. Hardly an ounce. But I got some sweet pictures of her having a couple of sips this afternoon.

I LOOVE how she puts her little hands out to hold the glass. So smart. I'm pretty sure she's gifted. Genius. Mensa. Or I'm biased cause I'm her mom.

Naw, she's a genius.

Sleeping Like A Baby

My girl is a terrible sleeper. She's a distracted eater, fussy when she's playing and a light sleeper.

Naps are usually only taken on mom. I can feed her and she will pass out on my lap. If I move she is awake pretty fast, and she gets uncomfortable fast when she falls asleep on a shoulder.

It was almost 2 months before she started sleeping long stretches at night. I had a c section with a, lets say...less than speedy recovery, so adjusting myself to feed her every 1.5- 2 hours at night was painful.

She finally started sleeping from 7pm-11pm just after she turned 2 month old. That was lovely.

Did I mention she will ONLY sleep if she is swaddled tightly.

She is so friggin' strong though. She can burst out the top of swaddler very easily. Which of course wakes her up. She wakes up when the sleep sheep turns off after 45 minutes. She wakes up the first 3 times the Jocelyn (what we call her soother) falls out of her mouth.

The last few nights she has started doing this back flexing foot stomping business while we try to get her to sleep. It terrifies me that this means she doesn't want to be swaddled anymore. AHHHHH.

So tonight we make the horrific decision to try to put her to bed un-swaddled. And it's not so bad, so far. She was fussy when she went upstairs, which she always is. And she has woken up once when the sleep sheep turned off, as always. But she has been asleep for 3 consecutive hours now and I am calling this a win! Parenting success! I guess she was ready and willing to sleep without being a burrito.

My baby is growing up. Next week she's going to get a job and learn to drive.
